Dr Rhys Price-Robertson
BSSc (Psychology), MA (Bioethics), PhD (Psychology).
Rhys Price-Robertson is a gestalt psychotherapist. He has completed a Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology), a Master of Arts (Bioethics), and a PhD (Psychology). He has also completed four years of Advanced Clinical Training in Relational Gestalt Therapy.
Rhys’ approach to psychotherapy aims at developing self-awareness. He supports people experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including shame, anxiety, depression, trauma, work stress, relationship issues, and life transitions. He also works with people who are interested in personal growth, finding meaning, and cultivating spirituality. He welcomes people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, genders, sexualities, and abilities.
Rhys primarily draws on his training in Gestalt therapy, which is an approach to psychotherapy that emphasises the “here-and-now”, embodied experience, and the relationship between the therapist and client. Gestalt therapy aims to develop clients’ self-awareness so that they can live more authentic and flexible lives.
Rhys does not offer a Medicare rebate. However, his fees are adjusted so that they are similar to the out-of-pocket expenses one would pay with a psychologist. For people interested in medium- or long-term psychotherapy, his services may be more affordable than those of a psychologist, which become more expensive when the Medicare rebate runs out.
Rhys has published over 50 journal articles, book chapters, and reports on topics such as psychotherapy, mental health, fatherhood, family life, and social theory. He is the Editor of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Journal of Australia.
Please note that Rhys practices from the Carlton office.

Areas of Expertise
“We all have parts of ourselves that feel messy, wrong, or unacceptable. It tends to be these parts that lead us to therapy. Rather than help you to overcome or escape any aspects of yourself, my aim is to encourage you to be present to your life as it actually is. It is through deepening your relationship with yourself and others that lasting growth and change can emerge.”
